 Hey Cats, CatFacts.ca readers, and everyone in between! Welcome to one of our favourite days, it's Tabby Tuesday! CAT FACT: A housecat's brain is structurally similar to that of a human's brain. Meow! - The cerebral cortex, which is the part of the brain responsible for information processing, is highly developed in both humans and cats!  - Wow! No wonder they're so smart!  Another new day, another new spot for Viv! She enjoys watching the world through the window!

CAT FACT: Cats have an extremely flexible spine , that's why they're so slinky! - They have 30 vertebrae, which is more than most mammals!  Viv thought she would keep it comfy today in one of her favourite spots!

CAT FACT: Cats also have a unique set of taste receptors specifically dedicated to detecting bitter tastes.  - This allows them to quickly detect potentially bad substances in their food! Wow! Viv was hanging out, so we wrapped her up in one of her favourite blankets! Meow!

 Happy weekend to all CatFacts.ca readers and all the Kitty Cats out there!  CAT FACT: Cats were used to control pests like mice and rats in ancient households! Wow!  - I still think kitties can still serve to help around the household like this even to this day! - Cats enjoy chasing after their prey, it's like a fun game to them! Meow! Viv likes to watch movies , like The Notebook! It's one of her favourite weekend activities! Meow!

Wow what a lot of snow we got here today! Viv welcomes everyone to the end of the week with another Cat Fact! CAT FACT: Cats have a specialized scent gland on their face, which they use to mark their territory - I always thought they were scratching their Cat face on everything, but maybe they are doing this! Viv won't be doing any shovelling today! Just relaxing!

CAT FACT: Cats have a unique way of communicating through scent marking. - They will also rub their face and body on objects to deposit their scent. - They also use scent marking to communicate with other cats in the area What's Viv up to? She's fast asleep!

Half way through the week! So we're halfway through our Cat Facts for the week! Viv's back with another one! CAT FACT: Cats are solitary hunters and typically hunt small prey such as mice, rats and birds. - Kitty-Cats are carnivores and require a diet high in protein. - They are super-skilled at stalking and ambushing their prey! Wow! Viv is STILL in her favourite spot!

CAT FACT: Cats have retractable claws that they use for hunting and climbing! - They have five toes on their front paws and four toes on their back paws. - When a cat is relaxed, their claws are retracted and sheathed in a protective covering. - Cats will sharpen their claws by scratching rough surfaces, such as a scratching post Viv loves her brown blanket! Meow!

CAT FACT: Cats are natural hunters, watching birds can trigger their predatory instincts! - When cats watch birds, they may become fixated on their movements and begin to stalk them, even if they are inside and the birds are outside. This behaviour is part of their innate hunting instincts! Wow! - Watching birds can be a form of enrichment for cats, and watching birds can provide mental stimulation and entertainment. We got some snow last night so winter is still here.  CAT FACT: Siamese is a popular breed of cat known for their distinctive colouring and vocalization - Siamese Cats are an ancient breed that originated in Thailand, where they were considered sacred and kept in temples! Wow!  - Siamese Kitty Cats are known for features like their light-coloured body and dark points on their face, ears, paws, and tail! - Siamese Cats are often described as being vocal and social, and they form strong bonds with their owners. CAT FACT: Cats can hear you even when they look like they're sleeping! - Cats have better hearing than people,  and Dogs! - Cat ears can rotate, so they turn toward the sounds they hear! Wow! - The original Cat was called Proailurus - which is Latin for "first cat" - Proailusrus lived Millions of years ago! Whats Viv doing today? Hello all CatFacts.ca readers and all our Kitty-Cat friends! We're halfway through the week and it's Wednesday, Viv says that sounds like a good day for a Cat Fact! CAT FACT: Kitty Cats are faster than humans! Wow!  - That's right! Faster than Usain Bolt! - They are also super agile and can change directions at the drop of a hat! - Humans can run up to 27.5MPH, but Kitties can go up to 30MPH! They got us beat! Meow! Check out Viv's newest friend Myah! Viv is so excited to keep making these new Kitty-Cat friends! Thank you so much Myah for sending us this picture, you're looking great!

Viv says Hi Everybody! It's another Tabby Tuesday, one of our favourite alliteration days here at CatFacts.ca CAT FACT: Most Kitty-Cats don't have any eyelashes! - This does not affect them though because they have the special third eyelid we mentioned in a past Cat Fact , Wow! - But they do have those awesome eyebrows we all love so much! - The third eyelid is called the "tapetum lucidum" - latin for "Bright Tapistry" . You know when you give a cat a staredown, sometimes you will see that shimmery glaze over their fancy eyeballs? This is the tapetum lucidum. It works by basically reinforcing the light that is already there. It focuses on green/blue (like human night vision goggles from the movies) so that it can stand a chance, then it reflects the light multiple times giving the cat a 44% brighter image of what is there compared to a human. As humans, we only get to see the light once, and we see all the colours so its diluted  Here's a couple pics of ...

CAT FACT: Cats' vision doesn't include the area right beneath their Cat nose! - That's why your Cat can easily spot a mouse from across the yard! - But when they can’t find the treat you set under its nose? What a great weekend says Viv! Thanks for checking back for today's Cat Fact! We have another tasty Cat Fact for you today! CAT FACT: Cats don't have the taste receptors to taste sweets!  - This is why cats aren’t often interested in stealing fruits and desserts from our plates! - Kitties usually try to sneak a snack of our meat and veggies instead! Meow! - This is why many commercial cat foods and treats are made with meat or fish-based flavourings rather than sweets, Wow! Here's a couple Cat-Pics of Viv! Welcome to our favourite day of the week here at CatFacts.ca! Once again it's FELINE FRIDAY, and does Viv ever have a fun one for you today! And best of all, we have our second CatFacts.ca reader submission! That's right! More Cat-Pics! CAT FACT: Cats have extra organs that allow them to taste the air! - This special organ is called the Jacobson organ and is located on the roof of their Kitty-Cat mouth - The way Cats use the Jacobson organ is called the "Flehmen response". It involves opening their mouths slightly and wrinkling their upper lip to facilitate the detection of pheromones! Wow! - The Kitty-Cats detect pheromones and other scents associated with mating, territorial marking, and other social behaviours Viv's new Feline friend today hails from Canada, check out Endo! What a cool Cat! Viv says she is willing to bet that Endo likes Cat Facts too! Here's a few Cat-Pics of Endo getting up to what he does best! Meow!

CAT FACT: Cats were originally brought to the Americas to be pest controllers! - They were first brought around the 1750s.  Wow! - They would help protect the food supply on the boats!  One of Viv's favourite days, it's Wednesday! We're back to spring weather here so we hope you're all not too cold wherever you are! CAT FACT: Cats have a unique way of showing aggression! Wow! - sometimes they may arch their backs! We've all seen this, Meow! - sometimes they hiss and growl, Woah Kitty-Cat! Here's a pic of Viv showing no aggression! She has found a new favourite spot to lay down all day on her purple blanket.

CAT FACT: Cats have a flexible diet! - Wet food has a higher moisture content, so it can be beneficial for cats with certain health conditions - Dry food is more convenient and can be left out for cats to graze on throughout the day, not our Viv though! She would eat it all! Meow! - Some cats may prefer one type of food over the other! Wow! Check out today's pic of Viv, she's relaxing in one of her daytime spots!

Meow! - Cat Island is a unique "T-shaped" island created by colliding Gulf of Mexico currents -  The island's name comes from French explorers who mistook raccoons for cats! - Cat Island's sand beaches are backed by dense forests of slash pines and live oaks Here's a few pics of Viv enjoying the day!

CAT FACT: A housecat's tail helps them maintain balance and communicate emotions - For example, a twitching tail can indicate excitement or frustration, Meow! - A kitty cat with a fluffed-up tail can indicate aggression, or even fear, like when you move the Christmas tree and they freak out! - A relaxed and waving tail can indicate contentment!
