Feline Friday

Image
Hey friends and Cats and CatFact.ca readers! It's once again our favourite day of the week! It's Feline Friday, so of course we're back, with another Cat Fact! CAT FACT: Cats love playing with Catnip! - It is not known exactly why cats love playing around with Catnip, or why it makes them so silly!  - Almost all kinds of felines react like this to Catnip! Sometimes, lions and tigers are not affected, but most of the time they are! Wow! - One of the main guesses for why felines react like this to Catnip is that some of the chemicals in the Catnip are good at repelling mosquitos! So the Cats would rub all over the plants like crazy cats and then they would get pestered less by the mosquitoes!   - Catnip can be found growing all over the world, but Catnip is native as a species in areas from Europe to Asia. So kitty-cats are getting wacky everywhere! Here's a few pics of Viv! She's waiting for dinner, being fluffy, and all wrapped up in her favourite spot on the couch...

Thursday Cat Fact

Welcome to Thursday, readers and Cat lovers! Wet and rainy here today, but what else is new? At least it lends itself to good Viv lying-down sessions.  CAT FACT: A group of cats is called a clowder  - if they are silly Cats we call it a clownder haha - to some, a clowder of three is a lot of Cats, but to some, a clowder of 20 is not even enough! Wow! - The word "clowder" traces back its origins to the word "clotern", like other well-known words such as "clutter" and "cluster". Viv is snoring in these pics, hilarious !

Hey Cat Fact readers, we bet today's fact is sure to make you sleepy, like Viv and all her Cat friends! Wow! - Cats are crepuscular animals, meaning they are most active during dawn and dusk.  - Cats have a unique sleep-wake cycle. It's known as "polyphasic sleep". That means they take lots of short naps all around the clock instead of one big long sleep. - Cats' sleep also has two kinds of sleep like us! They have rapid eye movement (REM) and non-REM sleep, just like humans! REM sleep is when most dreaming occurs. This means that maybe cats do dream during their sleep! Just like we all thought! Meow! Don't forget to send in your cat facts! We'll feature them all on CatFacts.ca ! Here's Viv hanging out mid-day, what a relaxed Cat! Wow!

Thursday Cat Fact

It's Thursday! Check out today's cat fact and cat pic below! CAT FACT: Recent advances in archaeology and genetics have shown that the Kitty Cat's domestication occurred first might have occurred in Western Asia around 7500 BC - We used to think that cat domestication began in ancient Egypt, where cats were venerated from around 3100 BC - Bastet is probably the best-known feline goddess from Egypt. Initially depicted as a lioness, Bastet assumed the image of a cat or a feline-headed woman in the 2nd millennium BCE. Wow! what a long time ago! I wonder how long that is in cat years! - Cats were praised for killing venomous snakes and protecting the Pharaoh since at least the First Dynasty of Egypt!

Wild Wednesday

A warm Wednesday to all. I hope everyone is having as good a week as Viv the cat. She's pictured below as she commonly is, and she's back with another Cat Fact! CAT FACT: Did you know - a female grown-up kitty is called a Queen! - If you have a female cat who is pregnant or nursing, she is also considered a queen - If your female cat has been spayed, she is referred to as a molly for her entire life. Unlike male cats being called either “toms” or “tomcats,” a female cat would only be referred to as a “molly” and not a “molly cat.” - Although that would be hilarious if we did call them that... - There are mixed opinions about where the term “molly” came for a female cat, we just don't know for sure! Here's a female cat! Ain't she the greatest

Tabby Tuesday

What a terrific Tuesday, full of surprises and new CAT FACTS; here's one! CAT FACT: Cats have a flexible spine and strong muscles, allowing them to rotate their heads almost 180 degrees. This helps them to keep an eye on their surroundings and hunt prey efficiently. - This means they can almost see completely backward. That's why it always seems like they have eyes on the back of their heads! Just try sneaking up on a kitty; that's hard to do! - This is also one of the factors that help with landing on their feet, but that's a whole other cat fact for another day, coming soon! Here's a picture of Viv having a snack. Dinner time!
